Pianist Colin Stone's long and varied career began in the 1980s with success in the Royal Over-Seas league and debuts on BBC Radio 3 and at the Wigmore Hall. Regular broadcasts, London recitals and a series of recordings established him as one of the leading British pianists of his generation. He formed the London Mozart Trio in the 1990s and made his debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2001 giving the premiere of Robert Keeley's Entourages in a live broadcast on Radio 3. Another premiere, a recording with Rustem Hayroudinoff of Shostakovich's transcription for two pianos of his fourth symphony, attracted considerable praise in the music press. Colin Stone performed Shostakovich's 24 preludes and fugues Op.87 in a concert introduced by Vladimir Ashkenazy, during the composer's centenary celebrations in 2006 at Cadogan Hall, and subsequently recorded the set on the BigEars label. He was invited to become a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in 1999 and continues to enjoy a life of teaching, performing, and recording.
Magdalena Filipczak's Carnegie Hall debut was hailed by the New York Concert Review as “a concert not to be forgotten… vehicle of violin wizardry.” She has performed on prestigious stages across Europe and the Americas, including Wigmore Hall and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. As a prizewinner of numerous international violin competitions, she received Mloda Polska scholarship from the Polish Minister of Culture for her artistic achievements. The Strad called her debut CD Essence of Violin “captivating.” Upcoming recordings with Peter Frankl and her brother Lukasz promise to be important additions to her discography. Magdalena can also be heard on BBC TV and Radio in Thief at the British Museum , as well as on recordings of Gregson's music for Deutsche Grammophon and others. She graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied with Krzysztof Smietana, and from the Perlman Music Program of Itzhak Perlman. In 2025 Magdalena earned a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree from The Graduate Center in New York, as a recipient of its prestigious Fellowship. Nicola Tait Baxter (cello) gave her first solo broadcast on BBC Radio 3 aged 24 and toured worldwide as a member of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet & the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. In demand as both soloist and chamber musician, Nicola performs in Ensemble Serafin, clarinet trio AMABILE, the Bochmann String Trio and in a duo with Colin Stone. The Piano Trio Society The Piano Trio Society was formed in 1995 with the aim of raising the profile of this important musical genre. Membership is international and includes professional trios, composers, teachers, students, amateur players and everyone who values the piano trio medium. We organize regular educational events including our annual Piano Trio Days, when students receive coaching from distinguished tutors and we continue to hold a biennial Intercollegiate Piano Trio Competition. We follow many of our student trios, as they start their professional careers and put opportunities their way when we can. We include a number of composers in our membership and are pleased to encourage the performance of new works. We often work with other Societies and are pleased that a number of our member trios perform at St Mary's Perivale.
