Ensemble Serafin is a recently formed chamber group based in London, bringing together some of the finest musicians in the UK. Each player brings a wealth of experience from their independent solo careers and projects and they unite to perform chamber music. They regularly perform in music clubs, festivals & societies around the UK; recent performances have included Chelsea Arts Club & the Canterbury Festival, alongside actress Harriet Walter! They have also recently recorded Sketches from “The Raven” by composer Lenny Sayers, based on the poem by Edgar Allan Poe.
Nicola Loud (violin) first came to fame by winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. She went on to become a prominent soloist, performing with major UK orchestras in both the UK and abroad. She has been a BBC presenter on television and radio and recorded for Chandos and EMI record labels.
Nicola Tait Baxter (cello) gave her first solo broadcast on BBC Radio 3 aged 24 and toured worldwide as a member of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet & the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. In demand as both soloist and chamber musician, Nicola performs in Ensemble Serafin, clarinet trio AMABILE, the Bochmann String Trio and in a duo with Colin Stone. Pianist Colin Stone's long and varied career began in the 1980s with success in the Royal Over-Seas league and debuts on BBC Radio 3 and at the Wigmore Hall. Regular broadcasts, London recitals and a series of recordings established him as one of the leading British pianists of his generation. He formed the London Mozart Trio in the 1990s and made his debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2001 giving the premiere of Robert Keeley's Entourages in a live broadcast on Radio 3. Another premiere, a recording with Rustem Hayroudinoff of Shostakovich's transcription for two pianos of his fourth symphony, attracted considerable praise in the music press. Colin Stone performed Shostakovich's 24 preludes and fugues Op.87 in a concert introduced by Vladimir Ashkenazy, during the composer's centenary celebrations in 2006 at Cadogan Hall, and subsequently recorded the set on the BigEars label. He was invited to become a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in 1999 and continues to enjoy a life of teaching, performing, and recording.
