The Ignis Piano Quartet was formed in 2019 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama by Ke Ma (piano), Sonja Tuomela (violin), Simon McKenzie (viola) and Chris Hedges (cello). They have enjoyed working together throughout their studies and received coaching from renowned musicians.

Sonja Tuomela is a Finnish violinist currently based in London as a freelance musician, combining teaching and performing as part of various professional ensembles. She studied at the Helsinki Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Music before gaining a scholarship to the Guildhalls School.

Simon McKenzie is both a musician and a medic, juggling viola playing with shifts at the hospital. He studed at Junior Guildhall before studying medicine at the University of Edinburgh. During his time working as a junior doctor, Simon applied to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and received a scholarship to complete a performance masters. He completed this degree in September 2020, and has been awarded a junior fellowship to continue his studies at the Guildhall.

Chris Hedges studied at Cambridge University and has just completed his Masters at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Tim Lowe. During his time at Guildhall, he was co-principal cellist of several orchestral projects.He is currently working as a freelance musician, combining teaching and performing, as well as playing with the Ignis Piano Quartet, a chamber group formed during his time at Guildhall.

Ke Ma is from China, and made her debut at Wigmore Hall under the auspices of the Kirckman Concert Society in 2017. In 2020, she appeared as one of the soloists at the Gold Medal competition at the Guildhall School. A committed chamber musician Ke has undertaken a Tunnell Trust Award tour of Scotland, and recorded music by Vieuxtemps for Champs Hill Records with violist in Timothy Ridout. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music and received her Bachelor and Master degree with distinction in 2017.
