Konstantin Lapshin (piano) was born in Moscow, studied at the Moscow Conservatory, and has recently completed his studies on a scholarship at the Royal College of Music. He won the Chappell Gold Medal and the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Rose Bowl at the RCM, and has won awards at many international competitions in Russia, Germany and elsewhere. Most recently he won 2nd Prize in the Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition (Serbia), 1St Prize in the Mendelssohn Cup Competition in Taurisano (Italy) and 1st Prize in the Schumann International Competition in Lamporrecchio (Italy). He made his debut CD in 2009 which received considerable critical acclaim. Forthcoming engagements include performances at the Wigmore Hall and in Moscow, Paris, Italy and Germany. He is supported by the Worshipful Company of Musicians and is a Concordia and Kirckman Society artist.

The Castalian String Quartet was formed in London in 2010 by graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and Eastman School of Music, USA. They are rapidly gaining a reputation throughout the UK for their “phenomenal impact on audiences”, and since September 2011 have been Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellows at the Royal Academy of Music, London. They won the 2011 Royal Overseas League Elias Fawcett Award for an outstanding chamber music ensemble, They performs regularly throughout the UK and abroad, and was recently chosen by the British Council to represent the UK in a concert tour of South China. The quartet recently gave their Purcell Room and King's Place debuts, and this season has been invited to give their Wigmore Hall recital debut, as well as performances in Italy and France. The Castalian Quartet is the Musicians Benevolent Fund Associate Ensemble at the Lake District Summer Music Festival and has won the Tunnell Trust Award for 2012/13. They are also artists on the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme for 2012/13.
