Kryzysztof Smietana (violin) was born in Poland and studied at the Cracow Academy and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He won most of the national awards in Poland and has been prize-winner in several major international violin competitions. He has made many recital and concerto appearances in Britain and abroad including at the BBC Proms, and has performed both Szymanowski's violin concertos with the BBC SO. He has recorded the Panufnik and Stravinsky violin concertos, as well as Fauré and Brahms sonatas. He has been guest leader of the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and is a member of the London Mozart Trio. He has taught at the Guildhall School since 1982.

Colin Stone (piano) first came to prominence when he won the Royal Over-Seas League Piano Competition in 1986, following which he made his Wigmore Hall debut. He has performed widely both in the UK and abroad, and broadcast regularly on Radio 3. He has recorded several highly regarded CDs, including much of Shostakovich's piano music. Last year he performed the complete Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues in the Cadogan Hall, introduced by Vladimir Ashkenazy. He is also a member of the London Mozart Trio, which has a high reputation and has made several important CDs, including a version of the Schubert B flat Trio which was the overall first choice in the BBC Radio 3's ‘Building a library' programme. Colin is also a professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
