This concert brings together the gold medal and first prize winner (Laura Lucas) and the ensemble award winners (Brodowksi Quartet) of the 2008 ROSL Annual Music Competition.      

Laura Lucas was a pupil of Chetham's School Manchester, where she was principal flute in the National Youth Orchestra for 2 years. She was the youngest winner of the Shell/LSO Scholarship in 2001, performing a concerto with the LSO at the Royal Festival Hall. She is currently studying at the Royal College of Music with Jaime Martin and Simon Channing, where she has won several major prizes, including the senior woodwind prize and the RCM concerto competition. She won first prize and the Gold Medal at the 2008 ROSL Annual Music Competition.

Dominic John studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music, where he won the Chappell Gold Medal, and held the Junior Fellowship from 2004-2006. He has performed widely, and is staff accompanist at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music.

The Brodowski Quartet are current recipients of the Richard Carne Fellowship at Trinity College of Music, where they previously held the Bulldog Scholarship. They hail from Germany , Wales , Scotland and England , and have won awards in several international competitions, including First Prize in the Val Tidone International Chamber Music Competition in Italy 2007. They made their Purcell Room debut in 2008 as part of the Park Lane Group Young Artists series. Their educational work, giving concerts in association with the Cavatina Chamber Music Trust and the Philharmonia Orchestra. They have received considerable acclaim, The Times describing them as the ‘new kids on the London scene', and the Independent stating that ‘The brilliant Brodowski Quartet are a group to watch out for'.
