He has given concerts throughout the UK and abroad, and participated in masterclasses and festivals. Andrew Yiangou is a twenty three year old pianist from Ealing, London. He was awarded the Bachelor of Music degree (Honours) in July 2014 at the Royal College of Music and is currently continuing his studies on the Masters programme. He won many prizes at numerous competitions including the ‘ Jaques Samuels Intercollegiate Piano Competition' , ‘ Emanuel Trophy Competition' and the 'International Piano Festival Poros' in Greece. The Gelächter Trio was founded by friends at The Royal College of Music in 2009, and has established itself as a dynamic and versatile ensemble based in London. The group trained under the tutelage of Martin Gatt (former principal bassoon of The London Symphony Orchestra) and were awarded the June Emerson Launchpad Prize in 2010. Whilst studying at The RCM, the group made their debut at St-Martin-in-the-Fields and received generous grants from The Britten-Pears Foundation, The Fenton Arts Trust and The RVW Trust. They also came to a realisation that a rehearsal could not take place without a certain amount of laughter, which is how they acquired the group's name: The German word Gelächter means "laughter". Passionate about education work, the Trio frequently leads workshops in many schools throughout the UK and works for Classical Babies, providing interactive recitals for mothers and toddlers. In October 2014 they gave a chamber music masterclass at Leeds College of Music and performed the world premieres of Dovetail (Timothy Salter) and Dark Gravity (Mark Yeats), having been awarded grants from The Britten-Pears Foundation, The Fenton Arts Trust and The RVW Trust, to whom they are extremely grateful. The Gelächter trio have a very diverse concert diary which includes playing at many music societies in the UK, performing for corporate events and weddings and giving educational performances.
