One of the most promising Polish pianists of the young generation, Michal Szymanowski was born in 1988 in Bydgoszcz into a musical family. He graduated with honours from the F. Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. At present he continues his piano education as a doctoral student at his alma mater and at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. He has won awards in 16 national and 6 international piano competitions, including: the International Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz (2010), the International Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Kiev (2007), the “Artur Rubinstein in memoriam” Competition in Bydgoszcz (2007), and the Polish National Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competitions in Warsaw (2008, 2015). In 2011 he won a scholarship of the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe. He has given performances in Poland, many European countries (e.g. in Germany,Italy, Spain, France, Belgium and Switzerland) as well as on other continents (in the United States, Japan, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela). He has also performed in the Palace of Nations in Geneva, the Paul VI Audience Hall in the Vatican (a concert for Pope Benedict XVI), at Warsaw's Belweder Palace for Bronislaw Komorowski, President of Poland, numerous philharmonic halls throughout the world as well as major festivals in Poland and abroad. He has performed with, among others, the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, the Symphonic Orchestra of the National Theatre Cláudio Santoro in Brasilia, the Warsaw, Cracow and Wroclaw Philharmonic orchestras, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra. 2011 saw the release of Michal Szymanowski's debut album Piano Recital (CD Accord), featuring compositions by Fryderyk Chopin, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, and Karol Szymanowski. The recording was critically acclaimed. One reviewer wrote: “Uncommon talent and a pianist of great promise.”
