Callum Smart (violin) attracted wide public attention at the age of thirteen having won the strings category of the 2010 BBC Young Musicians Competition performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto on BBC 2 and Radio 3. He was also the top European prize-winner in the Menuhin Competition that year, in Oslo. He has since appeared at a number of European festivals including the Dvorak Festival in Prague and the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad. In March 2016 he gives recital performances with the pianist Richard Uttley in Birmingham, London's Wigmore Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin and the Auditorium du Louvre in Paris. Last season he made his Royal Festival Hall debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra performing Beethoven's Triple Concerto under Michael Collins. Previous concerto appearances include venues such as Cadogan Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, London and performances with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the European Union Chamber Orchestra etc. In 2013 he performed Tchaikovsky's Concerto with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and made his North American debut with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. In September 2016 he will perform Bruch Concerto No.1 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra . 2014 saw his first recital disc on the recording label Orchid Classics, which was met with critical acclaim.. He was also named as a BBC Music Magazine Rising Star: Great Artists of Tomorrow. His second disc, featuring Fauré, Poulenc and Ravel with Richard Uttley, is released in March 2016. Callum began violin studies at the age of six and at nine became a student of Maciej Rakowski whose tutelage continued alongside his studies at Chetham's School of Music. Currently in Indiana , USA, as the recipient of the Premier Young Artist Award from the Jacobs School of Music, he studies with Mauricio Fuks. He plays on a c.1730-5 violin by Carlo Bergonzi.

Richard Uttley (piano) was born in Bradford in 1987 and graduated from Clare College, Cambridge in 2008 with a Double First in Music. He was awarded a Distinction in his Master's and Artist Diploma at the Guildhall School of Music and held a Fellowship there 2010-2012. He previously studied with Ian Buckle (for ten years), and attended the Junior School of the Royal Northern College of Music. He was selected for representation by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) in 2011. His awards include 1st prizes in the Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition 2010 and the British Contemporary Piano Competition 2006, as well as the M yra Hess Scholarship 2009. He was featured as a Selected Artist in Making Music's 2013/14 Season Concert Promoters' Network brochure, and has also featured as a Rising Star in BBC Music Magazine. Highlights of 2015/16 include solo recitals in Bridgewater Hall and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival; premiering works by Francisco Coll, Michael Cutting and Naomi Pinnock; recording for NMC and the ABRSM; concertos by Brahms, Grieg and Mozart; recitals with Savitri Grier (violin) including The Sage Gateshead; and collaborations with Callum Smart (violin). Richard is a trustee of New Dots, a charity promoting contemporary music. He teaches piano at City University and academic studies at Guildhall School.
